Just eight months after flipping to News/Talk, WATQ/106.7 (Chetek-Eau Claire) has flipped back to Classic Country as "Moose Country 106.7." The change, which took place on September 18, follows Clear Channel's purchase of the station. WATQ was tied for fourth place in the Fall 1999 ratings but dropped to 13th in Spring 2000 after then-owner Cumulus changed the format. Most of the talk programming that was broadcast on "News/Talk 106.7" remains on WMEQ/880 (Menomonie). (9/19/2K)

MINNESOTA:
KDUL-LP/12 (Duluth) will officially begin broadcasting on October 1. For now, KDUL is occassionally testing its equipment with broadcasts of programming to be aired as part of the regular schedule. Operations Manager Charlotte Klesman said they are still having some problems with the commercial insertion equipment, audio levels on UPN programming, and reception of AIN programming. Meanwhile, the transmitter for KDUL sister station and PAX-affiliate-to-be K56FH is in place, but the rest of the studio and signal distribution setup is not yet complete. 56 may sign on in a few months. And, KDUL translator-to-be W25CA (Ashland) is still broadcasting its own programming until engineers find a way to get KDUL's signal to Ashland. (9/19/2K)

Anthony J. Fant has been granted a construction permit for a new TV station on channel 24 in Ironwood. This is an interesting situation, since Fant initially applied for the station when his company owned channel 21 in Duluth. (Ironwood is in the Duluth TV market and the Ironwood station most likely would have served as a satellite to the Duluth station.) Fant has since sold the Duluth station to Red River Broadcasting, which signed it on as a FOX affiliate last year. No word on what Fant will do with the Ironwood permit. It's for a 5000kW station to broadcast from the WIMI/99.7 tower. (9/9/2K)
