Northern Wis. Station Flips from Talk to Country

A northern Wisconsin AM radio station has dropped Conservative Talk for Classic Country coinciding with the launch of a new FM translator.

WATW/1400 (Ashland) is now “Bay Country,” featuring a local morning show hosted by Big Bill Small and Local Radio Network’s Classic Country format. It appears the new format launched in early November, a few days before W267CS/101.3 signed on to relay WATW.

WATW/W267CS is owned by Heartland Communications, which also owns “Today’s Country Z93” (WBSZ/93.3 Ashland), “Real Rock J96” (WJJH/96.7 Ashland), and Classic Hits station WNXR/107.3 (Iron River-Ashland).

The Ashland stations have no immediately local commercial competitors but compete with regional signals from Ironwood, Park Falls, and Duluth.
