Dakota Radio Group has dropped the syndicated “Bob & Tom” morning show from “100.1 The Eagle” (KJBI Fort Pierre-Pierre) over a comment on the show about Native Americans.
According to a statement on the station’s website from General Manager Diane Deis, the comment was made on July 16 and the show was cancelled the same day. The comment came during a discussion about the Washington NFL team’s pending name change.
“No one at Dakota Radio Group condones that type of uneducated and hurtful comment and although we have received an apology from Tom Griswold of the Bob & Tom Show, we stand with the Native American community to break ties with the show,” the statement reads.
KJBI runs a Classic Hits format. Reaction from listeners on the station’s Facebook page was mixed.
