Twin Cities PBS, which operates KTCA/2.1 and KTCI/2.3 (St. Paul), is advising viewers that its signal may be off the air at times this spring as it installs new transmitters.
The station says in a notice posted on its website that the project will take place between April 1 and May 15 and may result in brief outages.
The station says its current transmitters have reached “end of life” status with the manufacturer. They will be donated to Iowa PBS, which plans to use them for parts.
The new transmitters will be more efficient and will be able to use newer transmission technologies.
KTCA and KTCI transmit from the KMSP-TV tower in Shoreview. The tower is used by a total of four TV stations and ten FM stations and is less than a mile from the Telefarm towers used by the other major Twin Cities TV stations.
