Acadia Broadcasting is buying out its competitor in Kenora and Dryden.
Announcements posted on the stations’ websites say Acadia is buying “Q104” (CKQV-FM) from Golden West Radio. The price was not disclosed.
CKQV-FM is officially licensed to Vermillion Bay on 103.3 and operates secondary transmitters on 104.5 in Kenora and Sioux Lookout and 104.3 in Dryden, touting continuous coverage along a four-hour stretch of Trans Canada Highway with little other radio service. Its studio is in Kenora.
Acadia runs the other commercial radio stations in the region, CJRL-FM/89.5 (Kenora) and CKDR-FM/92.7 (Dryden). CKQV carries a Classic Hits format while CJRL and CKDR are Adult Contemporary.
Other radio service in the region comes from CBC Radio One, Ici Radio-Canada Première, a low-power Christian station in Dryden, and the Wawatay Radio Network in Sioux Lookout.
CKQV is the only Ontario station for Manitoba-based Golden West, which operates dozens of stations in the prairie provinces.
Acadia also owns stations in Fort Frances and Thunder Bay, along with ten stations in eastern Canada.
