Weekly Log: Lincoln Morning Host Returns, Two Minneapolis TV Moves

Matt McKay will return to Lincoln radio on Monday, June 20, with the “Matt McKay & Beth” morning show airing on Top 40 Christian station “98.9 TiM FM” (KJTM-LP). McKay was previously heard on KFRX/106.3. TiM FM Founder and General Manager Brad Leggett said, “TiM FM is so fortunate to have this great communicator join our team. Only God could have put this together. You have never heard a Christian show quite like this before. Beth is the perfect partner for this show, with her knowledge of the Bible and family, she will make this something really special.” The station says the new show will blend fun and games with a Christian worldview.

Minnesota Public Radio announced that Lindsay Kimball has been promoted to program director of “The Current” (flagshipped by KCMP/89.3 Northfield-Minneapolis). Kimball joined “The Current” as an intern shortly after its launch in 2005 and rose to become assistant program director before moving to a different leadership role at MPR in 2019. The network also recently promoted Jesse Wiza to the APD role and also announced the hiring of Rachel Frances as associate producer for The Morning Show.

Meanwhile, MPR launched its new Urban Alternative online stream, Carbon Sound, on June 16 at noon. Carbon Sound is run by content director Julian Green. The stream was launched with help from a Corporation for Public Broadcasting grant and is “dedicated to celebrating the depth, breadth and influence of Black musical expression through genres including Hip-Hop, R&B, Afrobeats, Funk and Electronica, honoring the foundational role of Black music throughout all genres of music,” according to MPR’s news release.

RadioInsight reported that Brian Davis has been named program director of KZIA/102.9 (Cedar Rapids).

Chris Williams recently left Sports talker KXNO-FM/106.3 (Ankeny-Des Moines) to focus on his family. He continues as publisher of Cyclone Fanatic and president of 712 Media.

Today is Gia Vang‘s last day as morning anchor at Minneapolis NBC affiliate KARE 11. Vang has been with KARE since 2019 and is the co-founder and secretary of the Very Asian Foundation.

Meanwhile, reporter Kate Raddatz announced that she’s leaving Minneapolis CBS affiliate WCCO-TV/4 for a new role that will involve contact with the media.

The Washington Post noted that Iowa PBS is among the PBS stations aired the congressional hearings into the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection on a digital subchannel rather than its primary channel, which reaches more households.

American Countryside, a daily national radio feature and podcast, has been featuring stories from Duluth this past week, including coverage of Bob Dylan, the Great Lakes Aquarium, and diving in Lake Superior.
