Weekly Log: CBC Reporter Passes, Public Radio Staff Moves

Longtime Thunder Bay-based CBC Radio reporter Jody Porter, 50, died of cancer on July 19. CBC reported that Porter is being remembered for her “commitment to telling hard, necessary truths about residential schools and colonialism in Canada, and their ongoing impacts on Indigenous people in northern Ontario.” She first came to northwestern Ontario in 1998 to serve as editor for the Wawatay Native Communications Society in Sioux Lookout and moved to the CBC in 2000.

State capitol reporter Tim Pugmire has wrapped up his time at Minnesota Public Radio after announcing his retirement earlier this summer.

Kenny Perez was named assistant program director and afternoon host at Radio Milwaukee (WYMS/88.9). Perez has more than 30 years of DJ experience and has been with Radio Milwaukee for five years, most recently as audio production manager.

The Des Moines Register reported that meteorologist Amber Alexander is leaving Nexstar NBC affiliate WHO-DT/13.

Former KARE (Minneapolis) anchor Gia Vang announced that she is now the weekend evening anchor at the NBC O&O in the San Francisco market.

Channel 57.9 of WIFS (Janesville-Madison) has switched to Cozi, replacing Movies! Network.

Gray TV NBC/CBS affiliate KBJR/6.1 (Superior-Duluth) and CW affiliate KDLH/3.1 (Duluth) are back to full power after a brief period of reduced power operations following a reported transmission line burnout.
