Weekly Log: New getTV Affiliates; People Moves in MN, NE, WI

The getTV digital subchannel network has been added on channel 12.6 of Hearst’s WISN-TV (Milwaukee) and channel 27.7 of TCT’s KCWV (Duluth).

Newscast Studio featured screengrabs of the new studio for Gray TV NBC affiliate WOWT/6.1 (Omaha).

Variety provided a great explanation of changes in daytime viewing habits and why ABC and NBC are focusing more on news in the daytime hours.

DX-midAMerica noted that new 100kW station WHBS/96.3 (Houghton, MI) has apparently been heard on the air testing with open carrier. Previous job listings have indicated that the station, owned by Houghton Community Broadcasting, will carry a Light Adult Contemporary format.

Creighton University Athletics announced a new three-year deal with NRG Media that will include “101.9 The Keg” (KOOO La Vista-Omaha) carrying all Creighton men’s basketball broadcasts. Previously, “The Keg” had carried only home games. Creighton sports broadcasts will be split among five NRG stations.

News Channel Nebraska reported that the ratings for its “98.9 The Vibe” (KKPR-FM Kearney) and “Fiesta 94.5” (KLIQ Hastings) have risen since a rebranding by KKPR and a format change by KLIQ last spring.


People

Leighton Broadcasting has announced that Jim Algeier will be the new general manager of its five-station St. Cloud group starting in September. Algeier has been in the radio business for 22 years and is currently GM of Leighton’s Winona group.

Rick Gevers’ weekly newsletter notes that Geoff Roth has joined Sinclair’s FOX 42 (KPTM Omaha) as news director. The newsletter also reports that Christi Reynard has departed the news director’s office at Morgan Murphy Media CBS affiliate WKBT/8.1 (La Crosse).

Matt Halverson has announced that he is leaving his role as sports director at Gray NBC affiliate KBJR/6.1 (Superior-Duluth) to take a job that will allow him to spend more time with his family.

Vanessa Villa has departed from the morning anchor desk at Scripps CBS affiliate KMTV/3.1 (Omaha) to move closer to family in California.

Dana Ferguson has joined Minnesota Public Radio as the senior reporter covering Minnesota politics. She had previously covered the capitol for Forum Communications’ regional newspapers.

Dymanh Chhoun has joined Tegna NBC affiliate KARE 11 (Minneapolis) as a photojournalist.
