Gray TV is swapping several TV stations in Wyoming and Nebraska for a future station in the Salt Lake City market.
Gray announced Feb. 1 that it will swap its stations in the Cheyenne-Scottsbluff and Casper markets to Marquee Broadcasting in exchange for the construction permit for KCBU (Price, UT). There will be no additional cash or consideration.
The Gray stations in the affected markets include CBS affiliate KGWN/5.1 (Cheyenne, WY) and its satellite KSTF/10.1 (Scottsbluff, NE), NBC affiliate KNEP/4.2 (Sidney-Scottsbluff, NE), and NBC affiliate KCWY/13.1 (Casper, WY).
The Panhandle news team changed its name from “NBC Nebraska Scottsbluff” to “KGWN Scottsbluff” in December.
“Marquee is excited to acquire Gray’s leading stations in Wyoming and Western Nebraska.
We are looking forward to building on the legacy there,” Marquee CEO Patricia Lane said in a news release.
Marquee also holds the construction permit for a future full-power station on channel 7 in Sheridan, WY, which it won in a 2022 FCC auction.
The Cheyenne-Scottsbluff and Casper stations compete with Coastal Television, which operates the ABC and FOX affiliations in both markets as well as the CBS affiliation in Casper.
Meanwhile, the current CP for KCBU calls for it to transmit on RF channel 11 from a site south of Provo, rimshotting Salt Lake City. The allotment was formerly used by an unrelated station with the same callsign that used virtual channel 3.1. Marquee won the Price allotment in the 2022 FCC auction.
