A plan for Coloff Media to purchase eastern Iowa radio stations KMAQ/1320 and KMAQ-FM/95.1 (Maquoketa) has been filed with the FCC.
First announced in July, the deal was submitted for approval to the FCC on Aug. 30 with an asset purchase agreement specifying a $400,000 purchase price.
Last year, Dennis Voy first announced plans to retire and sell the stations after 65 years on the air.
“I’ve known Dennis Voy for many years and I’ve always admired his dedication to radio and the community of Maquoketa and all of Jackson County and the surrounding areas,” Jim Coloff said in an interview posted on KMCH’s website.
KMAQ-FM transmits with 6kW/100m, serving an area between the Quad Cities, Dubuque, and Cedar Rapids. KMAQ/1320, which recently returned to the air after a brief period of silence, uses 500 Watts day and 135 Watts night. The AM station is relayed on K223DA/92.5 (Bellevue).
Coloff owns 12 other radio stations in Iowa, the closest being KMCH/94.7 (Manchester).
KMCH reported that its longtime station manager, Sarah Meyer, will serve as interim manager of KMAQ and that James Shaman has been hired as operations manager. The report said all current employees will continue through the transition.
KMAQ and KMAQ-FM run full-service music formats featuring a variety of local information, and the KMCH report says KMAQ will remain a hometown radio station.
