Big Top Chautauqua in Bayfield, Wis., announced that it has ended production of “Tent Show Radio,” which had been syndicated nationally by PRX. The weekly one-hour music show had been on the air since 1994. The announcement blames changes in the media landscape.
Wisconsin Public Radio announced that it will fill the former “Tent Show Radio” timeslot, Sunday at 8 p.m. on WPR Music, with an additional hour of “Simply Folk.” An affiliate list on Public Radio Fan says most of the show’s remaining affiliates were regional, including WXPR, WTIP, WDSE-FM, KSRQ, and KMSU.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that talk show host Jay Weber has been absent from iHeartMedia’s WISN/1130 for a week after making comments about a candidate’s son.
RadioInsight notes that the recent iHeartMedia cuts include Mike Dubs, who had hosted mornings at “Kool 108” (KQQL/107.9 Anoka-Minneapolis), and Hannah Kultgen, who had hosted afternoons at “95.7 Big FM” (WRIT Milwaukee).
TheDesk reports that Paramount Global, the owner of CBS, is considering the possible sale of a dozen TV stations that are not primary CBS affiliates. The list includes KCCW/12.1 (Walker, MN), which is a satellite of WCCO-TV/4.1 (Minneapolis). If KCCW were operated as its own station, must-carry rules would allow it to request cable and satellite carriage across the Minneapolis market. CBS sold WCCO-TV’s other former satellite, KCCO-TV/7.1 (Alexandria), in the spectrum auction.
Gray ABC affiliate KCRG/9.1 (Cedar Rapids) announced that Justin Roberts will take over morning forecasting duties while retaining his role as co-host of 9 a.m. lifestyle show “Everyday Iowa.” Meanwhile, meteorologist Corey Thompson will move from the morning show to 10 p.m. and chief meteorologist Joe Winters will trade the 10 p.m. show for “Midday” at 11 a.m. Winters will also continue as meteorologist at 4, 5, and 6 p.m. with additional reports from Thompson in those newscasts.
Sinclair FOX affiliate WLUK/11.1 (Green Bay) announced that longtime anchor and host Amy Hanten will leave the station in December. Hanten has been with the station for 33 years and served as morning anchor before moving to the station’s lifestyle show, “FOX 11 Living.” She will continue her nationally-syndicated segments as “The Cooking Mom.”
Gray NBC affiliate KWQC/6.1 (Davenport) has named Beth Marsoun as news director. She had previously held the role until leaving in 2014 for other communications jobs in the Quad Cities.
Program listings indicate Morgan Murphy Media’s WKBT/8.2 (La Crosse) is now carrying News 8+ in a simulcast with its livestream for most of its schedule. WKBT-DT2 continues to carry the two-hour “My Network TV” primetime block as well as a syndicated rerun of “48 Hours” at 9 p.m. and a “Dr. Phil” rerun at 10:35. WKBT carries CBS on 8.1.
