Weekly Log: Milwaukee Anchors Depart, Two New ND’s

Weigel CBS affiliate WDJT/58.1 (Milwaukee) announced that Mike Strehlow, who anchored the station’s first newscast in 1996, is beginning a phased retirement. Strehlow will no longer anchor the weekday 12 and 4 p.m. newscasts but will continue to anchor “CBS 58 Sunday Morning.”

News anchor Kristin Pierce announced plans to depart Hearst ABC affiliate WISN-TV/12.1 (Milwaukee) on April 16.

The Mason City Globe-Gazette and sister newspapers recently reported that Lisa Burger is now the regional news director for Allen Media’s stations, covering CBS affiliate KIMT/3.1 (Mason City-Rochester), NBC affiliate KWWL/7.1 (Waterloo-Cedar Rapids), and NBC affiliate WREX/13.1 (Rockford).

Matt McConico announced that he is beginning a new role as news director at Coastal FOX affiliate KQDS-DT/21.1 (Duluth). McConico had been news director at Gray NBC/CBS affiliate KBJR/6 (Superior-Duluth) until leaving last year amid a battle with lymphoma.

As first reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Jeff Sherman’s “The Upswing” is no longer airing weekdays on Good Karma’s WTMJ/620 (Milwaukee) and is instead being released as a podcast that also airs on weekends. The paper reports that WTMJ has expanded its “Political Power Hour” to two hours, now airing from 9 to 11 a.m.

It’s not just the Minnesota Twins and the Milwaukee Brewers getting regional broadcast TV distribution in the Upper Midwest this year: at least ten St. Louis Cardinals games will air on Gray Media stations in Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Ottumwa, Rochester-Mason City, and Sioux City. The first game is Friday, April 11.
