The following are updates to previously-reported items and other recent FCC filings and actions:
Iowa
The FCC approved special temporary authority for K239CR/95.7 (Indianola) to continue operating while its license renewal application remains pending. As noted previously, the station did not apply for its initial license until after the most recent renewal filing deadline, and the issue was discovered during preparation for a station sale.
Lowcountry 34 Media’s K27LD-D (Salix), covering the Sioux City area, applied to switch from 3kW to 1kW. The station reported in February that it had gone off the air.
Minnesota
PBS station KSMQ/15.1 (Austin) reported that it returned to its fully-licensed power, which is 319.2kW, on April 26 after completing a transmitter replacement project.
Nebraska
The FCC approved special temporary authority for the Nebraska Rural Radio Association’s KHYY/106.9 (Minatare-Scottsbluff) to operate at reduced power of 3kW as a major tower project gets underway. Once complete, KHYY will move to 107.3 and upgrade to 100kW. Another station recently reduced power in preparation for the project.
North Dakota
The FCC canceled DTV America’s construction permit for new low-power TV station K27LN-D (Fargo) and Roseland Broadcasting’s CP for K33QM-D (Grand Forks). FCC records indicate the permits expired on Jan. 10.
South Dakota
Prairie Winds Broadcasting was granted additional extensions of special temporary authority for KSDN/930 (Aberdeen) and KGIM/1420 (Aberdeen), saying the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to delay construction at their transmitter site. Filings indicate KSDN has been at reduced power of 1.25kW day and 250 Watts, non-directional, for a decade following a lightning strike that prevented it from using its day and night directional patterns. Its latest filing says KSDN is waiting on engineering to complete filed studies and hopes the process can be completed in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, KGIM has been transmitting at reduced power from the KSDN site since losing access to its previous site in 2017 and says KGIM will not be able to file for its license to cover until KSDN completes construction.
Gray TV’s K22OV-D (Caputa-Rapid City) reported that it completed an upgrade from 1kW to 15kW.
Casey C. Peterson is selling the construction permit for new low-power TV station K17OO-D (Sioux Falls) to Julie Huang’s Roseland Broadcasting for $30,000. The station has an April 8, 2023 construction deadline.
The FCC canceled Landover 2 LLC’s construction permits for new low-power TV stations K17PB-D (Beresford), K22OU-D (Reliance), and K32PA-D (Sturgis). FCC records indicate the permits expired on Jan. 10.
