Weekly Log: Several TV Arrivals and Departures

Posted on May 10, 2024May 10, 2024 by Jon Ellis

Tegna announced that two of its Iowa stations will carry 17 Indiana Fever games in the wake of Iowa star Caitlin Clark signing with the team. The games will air on WOI-DT/KCWI (Ames-Des Moines) and WQAD (Moline-Quad Cities), with some games carried on the stations’ ABC channels and others carried on KCWI’s main CW channel and WQAD’s MyNetworkTV subchannel.

Maria Lisignoli has joined CBS O&O WCCO-TV/4 (Minneapolis) as a streaming anchor and reporter. She previously worked at Gray NBC affiliate WMTV/15 (Madison).

Meteorologist Bree Sullivan has departed Allen Media NBC affiliate KWWL/7 (Waterloo) for a new job with Tegna ABC affiliate WOI-DT/5 (Ames-Des Moines).

Lacey Reeves and Jackson Valenti announced that they are joining Gray ABC affiliate KCRG-TV/9 (Cedar Rapids).

News anchor Kathryn Bracho announced she is leaving Gray ABC affiliate WBAY-TV/2 (Green Bay) after 21 years with the station.

Bruce Walchuk has retired from CKDR-FM/92.7 (Dryden) after more than 50 years at the station in both on-air and management roles.

Northwestern Media’s “Life 102.5” (WNWC-FM Madison) announced that Natalie Gross has joined the station as morning co-host.

Nebraska Public Media announced that Omaha-based digital properties “The Reader” and “El Perico” have been donated to the network.

Six stations were named both Station of the Year and News Operation of the Year at the 2024 Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Awards: Hearst’s WISN-TV/12 (Milwaukee), Morgan Murphy Media’s WISC-TV/3 (Madison), Gray’s WSAW/7 (Wausau), Good Karma’s WTMJ/620 (Milwaukee), Seehafer’s WOMT/1240 (Manitowoc), and Good Karma’s WBEV-FM/95.3 (Beaver Dam). Station of the Year winners in music radio included the City of Monona’s WVMO-LP/98.7 (Monona), Seehafer’s “Lake 98.1” (WLKN Cleveland-Sheboygan), and Sparta-Tomah Broadcasting’s WCOW-FM/97.1 (Sparta-La Crosse).

Gray TV NBC/CBS affiliate KBJR-TV/6 (Superior-Duluth) has switched to a news/weather graphics package also used by many other Gray TV stations, though KBJR’s lower thirds use white text on a black background.

In an interesting development just over the Iowa-Illinois border, RadioInsight reports that Regional Media has flipped WMQZ/104.1 (Colchester-Macomb, IL) and WZOE-FM/98.1 (Princeton, IL) from Rock to Classic Hip-Hop, a format not usually available in rural areas of the Midwest. The company’s announcements note that Classic Hip-Hop is being discovered by younger generations.
