Northern Twin Cities Metro Gets “Amor”

Posted on October 9, 2024October 9, 2024 by Jon Ellis

Santamaria Broadcasting’s KMNQ/1470 (Brooklyn Park), which serves the northern half of the Twin Cities metro area, has switched to “Amor.”

The new format features Spanish-language pop, soft rock, bachata, and salsa hits from the 1970s to early 2000s.

KMNQ had previously relayed Santamaria’s “La Raza” (KMNV/1400 St. Paul), which carries a Regional Mexican format. KMNV is also relayed on K239CJ/95.7 (St. Paul).

The two AM frequencies have simulcast for much of the past thirty years, though their coverage areas overlap in the north-central metro. KMNQ transmits from Brooklyn Park with a 5kW directional signal pointed north and KMNV transmits with a 1kW non-directional facility from St. Paul.

Facebook activity indicates the new format launched in August.
