Proposed Manitoba Radio Station Would Operate 2 Hours Per Week

Posted on August 10, 2021 by Jon Ellis

A proposed religious radio station in Manitoba’s Interlake region would only operate for two hours per week, and half of that would be in German.

Interlake Mennonite Fellowship Church is proposing a new station on 107.9 in Okno, broadcasting at 340 Watts (Class A). The proposed station has a tentative callsign of CFCD-FM.

The station’s application states that in a typical week, it would only broadcast on Sunday mornings, carrying a one-hour church service in English and another one-hour service in German. It says the station may broadcast up to 20 hours per week when it has evening services or special events.

The station is seeking an exemption of the requirement that it be able to relay alerts from the National Public Alerting System, since it would only be on the air two hours per week.

The application is slated for a CRTC public hearing in Gatineau, Quebec, on Sept. 9.
