Two Winona Stations Rebrand

Posted on March 7, 2019 by Jon Ellis

Leighton Broadcasting’s KWNO-FM/99.3 (Rushford-Winona) has switched the slogan for its Country format from “Wild Country” to “The Hawk” with the new callsign KHWK-FM.

Leighton had started using the “Wild” moniker on the station when it bought it several years ago, replacing “K-Dub Country.”

Meanwhile, the callsign of Leighton’s KAGE/1380 (Winona) was changed to KHWK on March 11. 1380 continues to carry the syndicated “Real Country” format and is rebroadcast by an FM translator at 101.5.

The change marks the end of a callsign that had been used since 1957 (the former KAGE-FM/95.3 changed its callsign to KGSL several years ago but still goes by “KG95.3”).
