Format Swap in Marshall

Posted on April 3, 2019 by Jon Ellis

The Linder family’s Marshall Radio group has moved Classic Hits to a bigger signal, displacing southwestern Minnesota’s heritage Contemporary Hits outlet.

The former KKCK/99.7 (Marshall) is now KARZ Classic Hits, while the former KARZ/94.7 (Springfield-Marshall) is now Top 40 KKCK.

99.7, which transmits with 100kW from Lake Benton, delivers a rimshot signal to Brookings, SD, and fringe coverage of Sioux Falls. It had been the home of KKCK since 1982 and likely played many of the songs now included in the Classic Hits format during its early years as a CHR.

Meanwhile, 94.7 transmits with 50kW from east of Marshall and has carried a variety of formats, most recently assuming the KARZ identity when the group’s KNSG/107.5 (Marshall) flipped to Sports in 2017.
