Marquette’s Great Lakes Radio Sold

Posted on May 16, 2019 by Jon Ellis

Charles Williams’ MediaBrew Communications Marquette is buying Todd Stuart Noordyk’s Great Lakes Radio’s group in Marquette for $2 million.

The group includes Classic Rocker WRUP/98.3 (Palmer-Marquette), Adult Contemporary “Sunny 101.9” (WKQS Negaunee), and Country WFXD/103.3 (Marquette), as well as several formats that originate on HD subchannels and are relayed on translators: Classic Hits “GTO” (W248BU/97.5 Ishpeming), FOX Sports Marquette (W260AG/99.9 Ispeming and W286BC/105.1 Marquette), and seasonal Christmas outlet “The Gift 106.1” (W291CJ Marquette).

The deal includes a one-year non-competition agreement for several members of the Noordyk family and a consulting agreement for Todd and Luke Noordyk. It does not include Great Lakes Radio’s WQXO/1400 (Munising) or WRPP/92.7 (Manistique); the Noordyk family also owns two non-commercial Christian stations in the area.

The group being sold is one of four commercial radio groups in the Marquette market, competing with Sovereign Communications’ five stations, Armada Media/Radio Results Network’s three stations, and Taconite Broadcasting’s two stations, as well as a few Escanaba-based Armada/RRN stations with rimshot coverage of the Marquette area.
