“Life,” “Faith” Networks Expand on Former Refuge Stations

Posted on September 3, 2019 by Jon Ellis

The University of Northwestern-St. Paul is expanding its “Life” and “Faith” formats on a number of stations that formerly carried “Refuge Radio,” though the future of Refuge’s former flagship station remains undetermined.

In the wake of Refuge Media Group donating its stations to UNWSP and ending operations over the Labor Day weekend, Northwestern Sr. Vice President for Media Jason Sharp says eight of the former “Refuge” signals will carry “Faith Radio” and seven will carry “Life” formats.

“Faith Radio” carries Christian teaching and preaching. “Life” stations are locally programmed in each market with a Contemporary Christian format.

Sharp says they are still considering options for former “Refuge” flagship WJRF/89.5 (Duluth), which is now off the air. Northwestern already had two other FM stations in Duluth, making it the only city where it has three full-power stations.

Stations that will carry “Faith Radio” include:

  • K220BI/91.9 Grand Marais, MN
  • K256CW/99.1 Grand Rapids, MN
  • K215DU/90.9 Hutchinson, MN
  • K206DI/89.1 Mankato, MN
  • K277CC/103.3 Pennock-Willmar, MN
  • K208EX/89.5 Brandon, SD
  • K288EV/105.5 Brookings, SD
  • K288GA/105.5 Sioux Falls, SD

Stations that will carry “Life” are:

  • K220HY/91.9 Spencer, IA (from KNWC-FM Sioux Falls)
  • K210CG/89.9 Spirit Lake, IA (KNWC-FM)
  • K208FJ/89.5 Fairmont, MN (KNWC-FM)
  • KRGM/89.9 Marshall, MN (KNWC-FM)
  • KRFG/102.9 Nashwauk-Hibbing, MN (from KDNW Duluth)
  • K270DZ/101.9 New Ulm, MN (from KTIS-FM Minneapolis)
  • K220IT/91.9 Watertown, SD (KNWC-FM)
