For the second time, Milwaukee’s WITI-TV/6 has become a FOX owned-and-operated affiliate.
Fox Television Stations announced Monday, March 2, that it has completed the purchase of WITI and two stations in Seattle from Nexstar. Nexstar had acquired the stations last year as part of the Tribune Media merger.
Fox bought WITI and Seattle stations from Nexstar for $350 million, while Nexstar bought the FOX/MyNetworkTV duopoly in Charlotte from Fox for $45 million.
Nexstar says the transfers grow its mid-Atlantic holdings. For FOX, the transactions replace one NFL market with two NFL markets (Milwaukee is considered a second home market for the Packers since Green Bay is a medium-sized market).
Fox, which also owns stations in Chicago and Minneapolis, had previously owned WITI from 1997 to 2007. It’s the only owned-and-operated major network affiliate in Milwaukee.
