Civic Media Adds Two Stations in Central Wisconsin

Posted on April 15, 2025April 15, 2025 by Jon Ellis

Civic Media is buying two more stations in central Wisconsin, adding to a station the company already owns in the area.

According to an asset purchase agreement filed with the FCC, Civic will pay Hometown Broadcasting $1.4 million for WAUH/102.3 (Wautoma), WRPN/1600 (Ripon), and WRPN translator W226CQ/93.1 (Ripon).

WAUH and WRPN currently carry separate Classic Hits formats as “The Bug” and “The Wave,” respectively.

In a news release, Civic Media did not disclose programming plans but said it plans to keep the stations’ existing teams. It will take over operation of the stations through a time brokerage agreement on May 1.

“WAUH and WRPN are great examples of local, hometown radio done right, and we are excited to bring them into the Civic Media family,” Civic Media CEO Sage Weil said in the news release. “We look forward to building the online audience in these communities and integrating the local reporting staff into our statewide news team to bring more local news and information to the area.”

Civic previously purchased WISS/1100 (Berlin) and W252DR/98.3 (Oshkosh) from Hometown in 2022. WISS carries Civic’s statewide News/Talk lineup and reaches the Wautoma and Ripon areas.

The company owns 14 AM stations, six full-power FM stations, and 15 FM translators in Wisconsin. It has also received FCC approval to buy two stations in Minnesota.
