Four More FM Signals Sign On in St. Cloud

Posted on March 16, 2020 by Jon Ellis

Tri-County Broadcasting has recently signed on four new FM signals in St. Cloud.

The four 250-Watt FM translators are all licensed to and transmit from Sauk Rapids. They were obtained through the FCC’s AM Revitalization filing window and are permanently tied to their AM counterparts.

  • K232GA/94.3, relays the Album Rock format of WXYG/540 “The Goat”
  • W239CU/95.7, relays Sports and Talk from WBHR/660 “The Bear”
  • W266DT/101.1, relays Standards and Swing from WMIN “Uptown 1010”
  • W232EG/102.3, relays Classic Country from WVAL/800

The new signals bring Tri-County Broadcasting to a total of seven FM signals in St. Cloud, consisting of six translators and the full-power signal of “Rockin’ 101” (WHMH/101.7 Sauk Rapids-St. Cloud). The other translators are W293CS/106.5, carrying an Alternative format from WHMH-HD3, and W297BO/107.3, which relays WXYG via WHMH-HD2.

Though the coverage areas of 94.3 and 107.3 are essentially the same, an image of a t-shirt posted to WXYG’s Facebook page lists both frequencies:

In a sign of how crowded the St. Cloud dial is getting, three of the new translators are first-adjacent to Twin Cities stations. The sign-ons bring the total number of FM translators and low-power FM stations in the St. Cloud area to 14. (There’s one more to come: W230DG/93.9 will relay Townsquare Media’s KXSS/1390.)
