Rapid City Station Switches to All ‘80s

Posted on June 1, 2020 by Jon Ellis

Riverfront Broadcasting’s KZLK/106.3 (Rapid City) has switched to an All ‘80s format, dropping Hot Adult Contemporary.

The switch from “Star 106.3” to “All ‘80s Z106.3” came on Monday. Local hosts Craig Russell and April “Nikki” Goodhart (who is also program director) continue in morning and afternoon drive, with Rick Dees’ syndicated show in middays.

The switch from “Star” removes 106.3 from a crowded field of several stations playing current Pop in the Black Hills that includes Homeslice Media Group’s “Hot 93.1” (KRCS) and “93.9 The Mix” (KKMK) and Haugo Broadasting’s “Hits 102.7” (KXMZ).

On the Classic Hits side, it appears Bad Lands Broadcasting’s “Kool 101.9” (KFMH) was the only station in the area running `80s Pop prior to KZLK’s flip. Riverfront’s “Q92.3” (KQRQ) also runs Rock hits from several decades.
