Several stations are making changes after recent consolidation in the North Platte market.
Earlier this month, KRNP/100.7 (Sutherland-North Platte) switched from Active Rock “Rock 100.7” to Classic Rock as “Flatrock 100.7.” “Flat rock” is a nickname for North Platte, and several other businesses in the city also use the name.
Meanwhile, KZTL/93.5 (Paxton-North Platte) has kept its Country format but tweaked its name to “Z93-5.” It retains the syndicated Big D and Bubba morning show but most of the local hosts from new sister station “Q Country 107.3” (KNPQ Hershey-North Platte) have moved over to KZTL.
KNPQ is running liners telling listeners that “Q Country is moving to Z93-5,” leaving room for a new format on 107.3 in the future. The stations are currently running the same playlists.
KZTL’s 100kW signal is stronger than KNPQ’s 25kW and KZTL transmits from 30 miles west of North Platte, giving it additional coverage of Ogallala.
The changes come a few months after Eagle Radio began operating KZTL and KRNP under an agreement with Legacy Communications as the company awaits FCC approval of the transfer of their licenses.
KRNP’s change puts it in direct competition with Armada Media Classic Rocker “98.5 The Hawk” (KHAQ Maxwell-North Platte) in the eight-station market. Eagle also runs Adult Contemporary and Classic Hits stations while Armada also has Country and News/Talk formats.
KZTL, KRNP, KNPQ, and KHAQ are all relative newcomers to the market, having signed on in 2007 and 2008 (KHAQ was moved up from McCook).
