Two Longtime Northern Minnesota Radio Formats Combined

De La Hunt Media’s KPRM/870 (Park Rapids) has dropped the Classic Country portion of its format for Adult Contemporary but kept its daytime News/Talk lineup.

The change follows the family’s sale of former AC outlet KSKK/1070 (Verndale) to Gabriel Media, which flipped it to Catholic Talk earlier this month. The De La Hunts retained former KSKK translator K234CQ/94.7 (Staples) and are now using it to relay KPRM.

Listeners in Staples have been hearing the AC format on 94.7 for decades, first on KSKK/94.7 (Staples) and then on K234CQ after the original KSKK moved into the Detroit Lakes market. The same syndicated AC format runs on co-owned KQKK/101.9 (Walker).

Except for an hour of AC music at 10 a.m., KPRM’s daytime schedule remains unchanged. It simulcasts a news and information block with KDKK/97.5 (Park Rapids) from 6 to 10, starting with “America in the Morning” followed by local news, “Swap Shop,” and “Coffeetime” with Edward De La Hunt, Sr. KPRM also continues to carry syndicated Conservative talkers Buck Sexton from 11 to 2 and Sean Hannity from 2 to 5.

USA Radio news runs on the hour, and De La Hunt said on his show Monday that KPRM would also carry the Minnesota Wild.

KPRM also continues to be relayed on K263BR/100.5 (Park Rapids).

KPRM uses 50kW non-directional during the day and 2.5kW directional at night.

KPRM and other stations were recently transferred from Edward De La Hunt Sr. and Carol De La Hunt to their son and daughter-in-law, Edward Paul De La Hunt and Tamara De La Hunt.

KDKK continues to run a locally-programmed Nostalgia playlist which is one of the few survivors of a once-common format. The family’s stations also include “Hot Country 92.5” (KXKK Park Rapids), Classic Hits outlet KAKK/1570 (Walker), and “Coyote Country 102.5” (KKWB Kelliher-Bemidji).
