Green Bay will become an all-UHF market for digital TV Wednesday, Aug. 31, when Sinclair FOX affiliate WLUK/11.1 changes frequency.
The station is advising over-the-air viewers to rescan after 11 a.m. The station’s article explains that they hope to reach more households after the move to UHF. Stations across the nation that transmit on VHF have sought moves to UHF in efforts to alleviate reception problems.
WLUK has transmitted with 40kW on VHF channel 12 and will use 500kW after moving to UHF channel 18. It will continue to remap to virtual channel 11.1.
The change also affects Sinclair CW affiliate WCWF/14.1 since WLUK’s transmitter is hosting WCWF’s ATSC 1.0 signal. Earlier this year, WCWF converted its own transmitter to ATSC 3.0 (NextGen TV), hosting the market’s major affiliates.
All of the other TV stations in the Green Bay market transmit on UHF, making it the only all-UHF market in Wisconsin once the transition is complete.
