FCC Monitor: Changes Coming to Green Bay; UP Station Boosts Power

Posted on November 28, 2022 by Jon Ellis

The following are updates to previously-reported items and other recent regulatory filings and actions concerning Upper Midwest broadcast stations. This report is created by the author and is not an official report of the FCC.

Iowa

LA Communications’ K235CT/94.9 (Decorah) completed a move of its transmitter to a site west of town, continuing to rimshot Decorah with its 250-Watt signal. K235CT and parent station KDEC/1240 are two of the four stations carrying the “River” Adult Contemporary format.

Michigan

WDMJ/1320 (Marquette) has increased power as it continues to recover from a fire at its transmitter site nearly three years ago. It had been transmitting from a temporary longwire antenna with 200 Watts. In an updated request for special temporary authority, the station reported it is now transmitting from a new tower with 1kW daytime, 500 Watts critical hours, and 134 Watts night. It’s still awaiting the arrival of a new transmitter to get up to full daytime power of 5kW. The STA request was granted.

Aurora Media closed on its purchase of WRPP/92.7 (Manistique) and W254AG/98.7 (Escanaba) from Todd Stuart Noordyk and Great Lakes Radio on Nov. 21.

Minnesota

Hubbard ABC affiliate KSTP-TV/5 (St. Paul) reported that it is back up to full power of 1,000kW after a project at the Telefarm tower site in Shoreview. The station’s antenna height above average terrain changed slightly from 457 to 454 meters.

North Dakota

i3G Media’s K240CJ/95.9 (Oakes) has returned to the air after moving its transmitter to LaMoure, from where it continues to relay KDDR/1220 (Oakes) with 250 Watts. K240CJ was no longer needed in Oakes after K262DH/100.3 signed on to relay KDDR in that community.

Wisconsin

Woodward Communications’ WKZG/104.3 (Seymour-Green Bay) requested a callsign change to WFZZ, which is slated to take effect Jan. 1. The move suggests that “KZ104.3” will emerge from its current All-Christmas playlist with at least an identity change, if not a move away from the Adult Contemporary format that it’s been running the last several years.
