Weigel Broadcasting’s TV-49 Inc. has signed on a new full-power TV station in the Green Bay market carrying MeTV and several other Weigel networks.
WMEI/31 (Shawano) transmits with 1,000kW at 332 meters above average terrain from a tower south of Green Bay. As a full-power license, WMEI will be able to exert must-carry rights for placement on cable and satellite providers.
WMEI carries MeTV on 31.1, MeTV Toons on 31.2, Story Television on 31.3, MeTV+ on 31.4, and Movies! Network on 31.5.
MeTV has not been on the air in Green Bay since it departed Scripps’ WGBA/26.2 two years ago.
The channel 31 allotment was previously used by WFXS/55.1 (Wittenberg-Wausau), which returned its license in 2015. Weigel won the allotment in a 2022 auction with a $2.77 million bid and successfully petitioned to change its community of license to Shawano.
WMEI is the first new full-power TV station to sign on in Wisconsin in more than 20 years.
