Hearst CBS affiliate KCCI/8 (Des Moines) announced that it will launch a 4 p.m. newscast on Monday, July 15. The hourlong newscast, replacing Kelly Clarkson’s syndicated show, will compete with Nexstar NBC affiliate WHO-DT/13 in the timeslot. (Clarkson will move up an hour to 3 p.m. replacing Jennifer Hudson, who moves to 12:37 a.m.) “KCCI 8 News at 4” will feature anchors Stacey Horst and Ben Kaplan and meteorologist Anne Campolongo.
Falen Bonsett announced she is joining FOX 9 (KMSP Minneapolis) as Jason Matheson’s new sidekick on “The Jason Show,” which is syndicated to several Upper Midwest markets and FOX O&O’s around the country. Bonsett will also continue hosting afternoons on iHeartMedia’s KDWB/101.3 (Richfield-Minneapolis). The Star Tribune followed up on the announcement with a profile of Bonsett.
Spencer Furman has joined Gray CBS affiliate WSAW/7 (Wausau) as morning meteorologist. Furman previously worked at Hubbard ABC affiliate KAAL/6 (Austin-Rochester).
RadioInsight reports that Jenn West is no longer morning host at KFRX/106.3 (Lincoln) amid a new round of cuts at Alpha Media.
A reception report on AVS Forum says KHVM-LD/48.1 and KTCJ-LD/50.1 (Minneapolis), which recently returned to the air, are both carrying Salem News Channel.
Broadcasting veteran Carl Mann‘s third book on Omaha radio history, “Towers On The Prairie: The Changeover to Corporate Radio,” is now available on Amazon. The book is the last in a series and documents the market’s history from 1980 to 2010.
