Sign-On of New Station Prompts Changes in Aberdeen

Posted on November 24, 2024November 24, 2024 by Jon Ellis

A new non-commercial FM station has signed on in Aberdeen, SD, leading to an FM translator going off the air and another changing format.

According to an FCC filing, American Christian Radio’s KFCA/88.1 (Aberdeen) began broadcasting Nov. 22 under program test authority. KFCA transmits with 2.3kW/32m (class A).

KFCA’s programming is not immediately known.

It displaces Calvary Chapel of Twin Falls’ K201HB/88.1 (Aberdeen), which had carried Calvary Radio Network from KAWZ (Twin Falls, ID).

Calvary Chapel informed the FCC that its other Aberdeen translator, K209FR/89.7, has switched from KEFX (Effect Radio) to KAWZ. Meanwhile, a separate filing indicates that Calvary Chapel is “working on an engineering solution” to return K201HB to the air, presumably by changing frequency.

KFCA and Calvary Radio Network are among a half-dozen Christian radio services in Aberdeen. Others include regional networks Real Presence Radio and Praise Live, the national “K-Love” network, and a commercial Contemporary Christian format called “The Reason” carried on an HD subchannel and translator.
