Lincoln AM Station Goes Silent, Format Moves to HD2/Translator

Posted on December 12, 2024December 12, 2024 by Jon Ellis

Alpha Media’s KLMS/1480 (Lincoln) has gone off the air, with its programming continuing on an FM translator and HD Radio subchannel.

According to a request for special temporary authority filed with the FCC, KLMS left the air on Dec. 10 “due to the loss of its antenna site.” The filing requests permission to remain off the air while KLMS “evaluates options.”

The “Mix 103.3” format that launched on KLMS in early 2023, named for translator K277CA/103.3, is now originating on the newly-activated HD2 signal of KFRX/106.3 (Lincoln).

KLMS is licensed for 1kW day and 750 Watts night from an eight-tower array on the east side of Lincoln, using different directional antenna patterns day and night.

In August, KLMS requested special temporary authority to operate at reduced power, stating that the facility had “suffered significant damage to its licensed transmission facility from a July 31, 2024 storm.” However, the station later reported that it returned to full power on Aug. 21.
