Two small new non-commercial FM signals have signed on in rural Minnesota as construction deadlines near for dozens of new stations granted several years ago.
We Have This Hope Christian Radio submitted a license to cover application indicating new 250-Watt station KWHH/88.3 (Fairmont) has signed on. KWHH is the farthest-south station of the network, which otherwise covers much of northern Minnesota in addition to a low-power FM signal in the Twin Cities’ northwest suburbs.
KWHH displaces the University of Northwestern-St. Paul’s K202EN/88.3 (Fairmont), which has not yet submitted a filing indicating its plans. It can either change frequency or return its license.
Meanwhile, Minn-Iowa Christian Broadcasting submitted a license to cover application indicating that new 260-Watt station KJCA/88.1 (Marshall) has signed on. It is one of the northwesternmost signals in the Mankato-based “Kinship Radio” network.
Minn-Iowa also has construction permits for new stations in Hutchinson and Delhi/Redwood Falls.
Regular readers will have noticed a series of new FM sign-ons this year, which is happening because of a series of new stations facing three-year construction deadlines after being granted in late 2021 and early 2022. The new grants were a result of a non-commercial filing window and an auction for commercial allotments.
More stations are facing deadlines in the coming months.
