FCC Monitor: Milwaukee FM Translator Sale Closes

Posted on March 3, 2025May 14, 2025 by Jon Ellis

The following are updates to previously-reported items and other recent regulatory filings and actions concerning Upper Midwest broadcast stations. This report is created by the author and is not an official report of the FCC.

Michigan

The FCC granted West Central Michigan Media Ministries’ WGTM/90.3 (Manistique) a construction permit to upgrade from 150 Watts to 1kW, with its antenna remaining at 13m above average terrain.

Minnesota

The FCC granted the callsign WGRO-LP for the City of Cottage Grove‘s future station on 104.5.

Nebraska

The FCC has dismissed a request for tolling of the construction deadline for new Nebraska Public Media KUNE-FM/88.7 (Columbus), which faced a March 1 deadline. May 2025 update: It has since been learned that while the tolling application was dismissed, the deadline was extended to May 19.

Wisconsin

The Family Radio Network closed on its purchase of W225CP/92.9 (Milwaukee) from Tomsun Media on Feb. 28.

Madison Christian LPFM Radio has withdrawn its proposed amendment to change the frequency for its future low-power FM station on 103.7 in Monona to 102.1. The withdrawal comes after Magnum Communications filed an informal objection pointing out that the proposed frequency change would conflict with its W271DQ/102.1 (Baraboo), which has a construction permit to move to a site north of Madison. As previously reported, Madison Christian LPFM Radio will have to share time with another group on 103.7.

Lakeshore Communications’ WORQ/90.1 (Green Bay) reported that it is now using its new auxiliary facility of 4.23kW ERP. A previous filing said the lower power would be used until a new transmitter arrives to return to full power of 18kW ERP.

The FCC has granted construction permits for Armada Media’s W243ED/96.5 and W299CQ/107.7 (Rice Lake) to move their antennas to lower locations on their existing tower, remaining 250 Watts. Additional details are in this previous FCC Monitor.
