Northern Minn. Station Drops Block Programming for Variety Hits

Posted on February 3, 2026 by Jon Ellis

A 100kW tribal radio station in northern Minnesota has dropped blocks of different music genres in favor of Variety Hits.

The Red Lake Nation’s WRLN/105.3 (Red Lake) made the switch at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, telling listeners that “RezDawg in the Morning” and a block of Pow-wow music from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. will not change.

(The station’s post refers to “Jack FM” as a description of the format; it does not actually carry the syndicated “Jack FM” identity.)

WRLN had previously carried blocks of Classic Rock, Country, Hip-Hop, Pop, and Heavy Metal in the afternoon and evening, with Variety Hits running overnight. The new format combines all the genres throughout the afternoon, evening, and overnight.

The change comes four years after WRLN signed on with the block programming format.

The station also announced that the Feb. 7 broadcast of the Red Lake Nation College men’s basketball game will be broadcast entirely in Ojibwemowin.

WRLN’s signal covers the Red Lake Reservation and also reaches Bemidji and Fosston.
