Audio: The Final CBS News Radio Broadcasts

After 99 years on the air, the last of the original U.S. radio networks aired its last broadcast on Friday, May 22.

The final hourly CBS Radio News top-of-the-hour newscast at 11 p.m. Eastern time was devoted to what was arguably the biggest national news story at the moment: the end of that very broadcast. The entire four minutes was a tribute to the network’s history.

Here’s the final hourly newscast, as recorded from KDAL/610 (Duluth). (The mid-newscast commercial break has been removed.).

The actual final network broadcast was at 11:30 p.m. Eastern time. At that time, KDAL (10:30 p.m. Central) aired the news brief below, but as it turns out, it was not actually the final broadcast but a recording of an earlier broadcast:
