Weekly Log: Several Journalists Depart

Posted on July 3, 2026July 2, 2026 by Jon Ellis

Trent Condon says he was let go after making comments about the job cuts that affected many of his colleagues at iHeartMedia’s KXNO-FM/106.3 (Ankeny-Des Moines).

My days at KXNO are over. My comments were considered "controversial" from corporate about my colleagues that were let go. I stand by what I said.

I am still incredibly sad that Ken Miller (@imKenMiller) didn't get his final show after starting sports talk in Iowa 30 years ago.

Meanwhile, the schedule on KXNO’s website indicates it is now carrying FOX Sports Radio full-time; the same is true of KOSY/95.7 (Cedar Rapids), which had changed formats in 2024 to carry KXNO’s former lineup.

News anchor Steve Simpson has retired from Audacy’s WCCO/830 (Minneapolis). Simpson first announced his plans in April.

Reporter Joe McCoy announced his departure from Tegna NBC affiliate KARE 11 (Minneapolis) for a new job in Houston.

Meteorologist Gino Recchia has departed Hearst ABC affiliate WISN-TV/12 (Milwaukee) while meteorologist Molly Bernard has announced plans to depart the station at the end of July.

Investigative reporter Emily Davies has departed Gray CBS affiliate WSAW/7 (Wausau).

News anchor Heidi Paxson has announced plans to depart Gray NBC affiliate WEAU/13 (Eau Claire) later this month for a new job in North Carolina.

Chris Carter, former longtime anchor at NBC affiliate KWWL/7 (Waterloo), has died. KWWL reports that Carter worked at the station from 1993 to 2009 and was best known for hosting the station’s morning newscast and hosting the Neighborhood News feature.

KELO-TV covered the sale of the Brookings Radio group from Connoisseur Media to local owners. The article notes that the stations are updating their music and will have all local announcers.
