The following are updates to previously-reported items and other recent regulatory filings and actions concerning Upper Midwest broadcast stations. This report is created by the author and is not an official report of the FCC.
Iowa
The FCC granted St. Gabriel Communications’ KQBV/88.5 (Adel) an extension of special temporary authority to remain silent. KQBV went off the air in January due to the loss of a tower site lease and the station’s latest filing says efforts continue to move to a new site. It must return to the air by Jan. 6, 2027, to retain its license.
Minnesota
Duluth-Superior Area Educational Television Corporation’s WDSE/8 (Duluth) has applied to increase power from 34kW to 45.7kW.
HC2 Station Group was granted a construction permit for new low-power TV station K14TV-D (Rochester), using 15kW.
Heartland Christian Broadcasters’ W224CG/92.7 (Deer River) reports that it went off the air July 1 after being “moved off of its rented tower site.”
Civic Media’s WELY/1450 (Ely) reports that it is only able to operate at 20 Watts after a third-party contractor damaged the antenna’s skirt wires. WELY has requested special temporary authority to continue at the reduced power level until repairs can be made.
Nebraska
Nebraska Public Media’s K24GO-D (Blair) has applied to move to a tower near its current site and upgrade from 30 to 405 Watts.
South Dakota
Oasis Television Ministries was granted a construction permit for new low-power TV station K19NR-D (Sioux Falls), using 15kW.
HC2 Station Group applied for a new low-power TV station on channel 35 in Pierre, using 15kW.
Wisconsin
The FCC granted HC2 Station Group a construction permit for new low-power TV station W20FH-D (Green Bay), using 15kW.
Scripps’ WACY-TV/32.1 (Appleton-Green Bay) was granted a construction permit to move its antenna higher, rising from 297 to 344 meters above average terrain, and increase power from 85kW to 98kW.
