Longtime Minnesota radio broadcaster Paul (Stagg) Steigerwald has died at 83. Stagg is a member of the Minnesota Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame, which notes that he started at hometown station KWLM/1340 (Willmar) in 1957 and returned in 2007 after a career in the Twin Cities. Stagg’s resume included 18 years at WCCO AM-FM, where he worked in several positions before overseeing WCCO-FM’s transition to WLTE “Lite FM” as general manager. Stagg also owned several radio stations around the state. Services are planned for Aug. 31.
Charles Dillon, known as Chaz Millionaire on KMOJ/89.9 (Minneapolis) for more than 40 years, has died. KMOJ’s website states, “He did more than play music; he created memories, preserved our culture, and kept the soulful sounds of jazz flowing through our homes, our community, and our hearts.” MPR reports Dillon was 61.
Gray ABC affiliate WBAY-TV/2 (Green Bay) announced two departures and two additions to its weather team: Emily Merz and Nolan Cain are departing WBAY for jobs at Gray stations in other states. Meanwhile, Kyle Eck is joining WBAY to provide weekend evening forecasts while Andy Meade will do weekend mornings. Both will also be seen on some weekday midday newscasts.
Iowa Public Radio reports that the network has named Peter Clowney its new CEO. Clowney is moving from Nebraska Public Media, where he is COO.
