Longtime North Dakota Anchor Leaves Air Friday

Posted on July 25, 2019 by Jon Ellis

Jim Olson will anchor his last newscasts Friday, July 26, after more than 30 years on the air at CBS affiliate KXMC/13 (Minot).

According to his station bio, Olson joined Reiten TV in the mid-1980’s, working in sports, weather, and news. He was named news director in the 1990’s and later added station manager to his title under Nexstar Broadcasting’s ownership.

Olson led coverage of major events including the 2002 train derailment and the 2011 floods, which were covered with continuous round-the-clock coverage for a week.

His son, Tim, is now anchor of KX News “Good Day Dakota” and broadcast a tribute on Thursday.
