Several Public Radio Services Changing Schedules This Weekend

Posted on July 1, 2022 by Jon Ellis

South Dakota Public Broadcasting is making big changes to its weekend schedule as several other services also adjust due to the end of a longtime series.

“On Being,” which has its roots at Minnesota Public Radio and was most recently distributed by PRX, is ending its radio presence but will continue as a podcast. Radio replacements include:

  • Iowa Public Radio News: WPR’s “To the Best of Our Knowledge” Sunday at 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Minnesota Public Radio News: BBC World Service extending into the Sunday 6 a.m. hour
  • Nebraska Public Media: “The Pulse” Sunday at 6 a.m. CT
  • Prairie Public (North Dakota): WPR’s “To the Best of Our Knowledge” Sunday at 9 p.m. CT
  • South Dakota Public Broadcasting: “A Way with Words” Sunday at 9 a.m. CT
  • Wisconsin Public Radio’s Ideas Network: “On the Media” Sunday at 6 a.m.
  • WUWM/89.7 (Milwaukee): “Our Body Politic” Sunday at 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The replacement is part of a bigger weekend schedule change at South Dakota Public Broadcasting, which is also adding “Code Switch & Life Kit,” “Latino USA,” and “Bullseye with Jesse Thorn” while dropping two airings of “Mountain Stage” and changing several other programs’ timeslots. The changes will result in evening music programming airing seven nights a week on SDPB Radio.

SDPB’s July magazine features a look at the new shows as well as a history of the network’s beginnings 100 years ago. KUSD (Vermillion) was first licensed May 27, 1922 but returned its license in the early 1990s; KUSD-FM/89.7 (Vermillion) continues as its successor.
