“The Rockin’ Eagle” Adds Nest in Marquette

Posted on December 18, 2022 by Jon Ellis

The Upper Peninsula’s “Rockin’ Eagle” has expanded to Marquette following Eagle Radio’s purchase of two radio stations there.

The format is now being heard on W295CX/106.9 (Marquette) and WZAM/970 (Ishpeming-Marquette). The stations had previously carried ESPN Radio.

WZAM/W295CX are ID’ing separately from original “Rockin’ Eagle” signal WGLI/98.7 (Hancock-Houghton), while they share the same Facebook page. The Marquette signals continue with the Rock format when WGLI carries Detroit Lions broadcasts.

The change was first reported by DX-midAMerica and verified through off-air reception.

Eagle Radio, owned by the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, also operates “Eagle Country” (WCUP/105.7 L’Anse-Houghton). It bought WZAM/W295CX along with “Q107” (WMQT/107.7 Ishpeming-Marquette) and WMQT translator W227CJ/93.3 (Marquette) for $400,000.

The new format primarily competes with Marquette Radio Group’s “K-Rock” (WNGE/99.5 Negaunee). Mediabrew Communications Marquette and AMC Partners Escanaba/Radio Results Network both also operate Classic Rock formats in the Marquette market.
