The following are updates to previously-reported items and other recent regulatory filings and actions concerning Upper Midwest broadcast stations. This report is created by the author and is not an official report of the FCC.
Iowa
Connoisseur Media has parked the KUFX callsign on KZLB/92.1 (Fort Dodge), effective Oct. 12. KUFX had been used in San Jose, Calif., since 1998; that station adopted the heritage KBAY callsign on Oct. 6.
American Christian Radio’s KPVL/89.1 (Postville) reports that it returned to the air Oct. 7 after repairing electrical feed issues.
Michigan
Aurora Media’s WYKX/104.7 (Escanaba) was granted another extension of special temporary authority to transmit at about 10kW ERP, rather than its licensed 100kW, while it continues efforts to repair its transmitter. WYKX first began operating at reduced power in July 2024. The latest filing again repeats that it has been difficult to find parts because of the transmitter’s “obsolescence” and that alternative options for repairs are being investigated.
AMC Partners Escanaba’s WJPD/92.3 (Ishpeming-Marquette) was granted another extension of special temporary authority to transmit at reduced power of 3kW, rather than its licensed 100kW, from a reduced antenna height. WJPD began broadcasting at reduced power in spring 2025 after an electrical storm caused antenna and feedline damage. Its latest filing says a new transmitter has been installed but adjustments are still being made, and that it anticipates returning to full power within 30 to 90 days.
North Dakota
Programmers Broadcasting’s KWGO/102.9 (Burlington-Minot) has been granted special temporary authority to transmit with 3kW, rather than its licensed 100kW ERP, due to a transmitter failure. The reduced-power operation began Sept. 30. The station’s filing says a new transmitter has been ordered and may be installed within 30 to 40 days.
South Dakota
The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology’s KTEQ-FM/91.3 (Rapid City) went off the air Sept. 27 due to transmitter problems and has requested special temporary authority to remain silent.
Wisconsin
Scripps’ WACY-TV/32.1 (Appleton) has completed an upgrade from 85kW/297m to 98kW/344m.
Radio Maria’s WRMW/91.3 (Peshtigo) was granted special temporary authority to transmit at 250 Watts, rather than its licensed 5.4kW ERP, due to transmitter issues. WRMW transmits from Door County.
