The Minnesota Twins announced that play-by-play announcer Cory Provus will move from radio to TV in the 2024 season, with Kris Attebury taking over radio play-by-play. Where the TV broadcasts will be seen in 2024 remains to be announced.
Sunday night host Jearlyn Steele has departed Audacy’s WCCO/830 (Minneapolis) after 27 years, saying it’s time to give someone else the opportunity.
Meteorologist Gary Cannalte has announced plans to retire from Morgan Murphy CBS affiliate WISC-TV/3.1 (Madison) after more than three decades with the station. The station also announced that Alex Harrington will be promoted to chief meteorologist when Cannalte departs in February.
Sports reporter Amber Salas has departed Gray NBC affiliate KTIV/4.1 (Sioux City).
Weeks after Serese Cole departed a competing station, Gray NBC affiliate WOWT/6.1 (Omaha) announced that Cole is rejoining WOWT to co-anchor mornings.
Heidi Paxson announced that she is joining Gray NBC affiliate WEAU/13.1 (Eau Claire) as a news anchor, moving from a sister Gray station in Georgia.
Wisconsin Public Radio has named Molly Gardner as Eau Claire regional manager.
Mark Leonard has announced plans to retire from his role as general manager at Nebraska Public Media next summer.
Stations and companies
Gray NBC affiliate KWQC/6.1 (Davenport) announced that “Quad Cities Live” will expand to five days a week after Paula Sands retires at the end of the year. Currently, “Paula Sands Live” airs every weekday at 3 p.m. except Friday, when QCL airs. Morgan Ottier and Kyle Kiel will co-host; current co-host Jake Eastburn is due to deploy with the Illinois National Guard.
Lincoln-based Contemporary Christian outlet TiM FM is now being heard on KMWC/89.9 (Bethany, MO), which is along I-35 between Kansas City and Des Moines. “We will reach not only the residents in and around Bethany but also the millions of cars that travel up and down the interstate,” founders Brad & Carol Leggett said. “Please pray for us as we add this station to our ministry.” TiM FM’s Lincoln signals are KJTM-LP/107.9 and K255CS/98.9.
CBC/Radio-Canada announced plans to eliminate 600 jobs over the next year, with about 200 more vacant jobs eliminated. The impact on operations in Thunder Bay and Winnipeg was not immediately announced.
Corus Radio announced a new overnight lineup on many of its News/Talk stations, including CJOB/680 (Winnipeg). The lineup includes “Let’s Talk with Dani Stover” from 12 to 3 a.m. and podcasts about the music industry hosted by Alan Cross from 3 to 4 a.m. Central time.
KELOLAND reported that South Dakota Public Broadcasting is working with a marketing agency to update its logo and branding.
