Weekly Log: New Iowa PBS Leader; Bucks to Air on Broadcast TV

Posted on February 2, 2024February 1, 2024 by Jon Ellis

The Milwaukee Bucks announced that ten upcoming games will air on Weigel Broadcasting Independent station WMLW-TV/49.1 (Racine-Milwaukee). One game will also be simulcast on Weigel’s CBS58 (WDJT) and another will be simulcast in Spanish on Telemundo Wisconsin (WYTU-LD/63.1).

RadioInsight reports that Mid-West Family Broadcasting in Madison has cut several staffers, including Krista Hatcher, “Rowdy” Nelson Raisbeck, and Kristina Carlyle.

Greg Schmitke, the chief engineer at “Life 97.9” (KFNW-FM Fargo), has died at the age of 64. Schmitke’s obituary says he graduated from Brown Institute in 1986 and worked in the airline industry for 21 years before joining KFNW, where he also served as an on-air host.

The University of Northwestern-St. Paul continues the expansion of its Northwestern Media radio network with the pending purchase of KURL/93.3 (Billings, MT) from Elenbaas Media for $350,000. KURL airs a long-running commercial Christian format and has simultaneously applied to convert to non-commercial status.

Zoë Jones recently departed her role as weekend anchor/multimedia journalist at Gray NBC/CBS affiliate KVLY-TV/KXJB-LD (Fargo) for a job with the City of Fargo.

Iowa PBS recently announced that Andrew Batt has been promoted to executive director and general manager. Bett has been the network’s director of production and programming since 2022.

CBC Radio One has rebranded its flagship nightly news broadcast from “The World at Six” to “Your World Tonight” as it launches a podcast of the same name. Previously, the broadcast version of the half-hour newscast had been released as a podcast. Now, the podcast feed instead contains a separate 20-minute version of “Your World Tonight.” The broadcast version is unchanged other than the new name. The podcast continues to have a Canadian focus but, like the broadcast version, sometimes leads with non-Canadian items depending on news of the day.
