Weekly Log: Longtime MSP DJ Off Air, MN Radio Studio Closes

Posted on February 23, 2024February 22, 2024 by Jon Ellis

Townsquare Media’s KFIL-FM/103.1 (Chatfield-Preston) reports that it has left its longtime studio facility in Preston and is now co-located with other Townsquare stations in Rochester. The station says it will continue to serve Fillmore County and has an account executive who lives in the county.

A U.S. bankruptcy court approved the reorganization plan for Audacy, which owns radio stations in Minneapolis (WCCO, KMNB, KZJK), Milwaukee (WSSP, WMYX, WXSS), and Madison (WOLX, WMHX, WMMM-FM). Bloomberg Law reported that Soros Fund Management will own the biggest stake in the company, according to court filings.

RadioInsight notes a series of personality changes at iHeartMedia’s Minneapolis stations. Brian Oake, who had most recently been hosting afternoons on “Cities 97.1” (KTCZ), is no longer with the station. Zach Dillon moved from co-hosting afternoons on KDWB/101.3 to KTCZ’s afternoon shift, while Colt Parkey has returned to KDWB to co-host afternoons with Falen Bonsett.

Andrew Haze is now hosting afternoons at Midwest’s WIXX/101.1 (Green Bay) after former afternoon host Dan “Huggie” Amsden moved to mornings with Natalie Jansen.

Sinclair-owned multicast network The Nest is being added on dozens of Tegna stations, including KARE/11.5 (Minneapolis), WOI-DT/5.4 (Ames-Des Moines), and WQAD/8.6 (Moline-Quad Cities).

Tegna NBC affiliate KARE 11 (Minneapolis) announced that Nelson Garcia has joined the station as its new assistant news director.

Twin Cities PBS announced the hiring of Kelly Bigler as vice president of marketing, communications & brand strategy.

The Nebraska Broadcasters Association announced that Kent Boughton, Jane Monnich, and Dave Webber will join the NBA Hall of Fame. The induction will take place August 6 during the NBA Convention in Lincoln.
