New FM signals have signed on in recent months in Glencoe and Grand Rapids, Minn.:
K241DE/96.1 (Glencoe) is on the air relaying the Classic Country format of KGLB/1310. The 250-Watt translator delivers fringe coverage to Hutchinson and the far southwestern Twin Cities metro area.
Many in Glencoe likely remember 96.1 as the original home of KARP when it signed on in 1991; KARP moved to 96.3 in 1994 and later moved into the Twin Cities market. Its format and callsign were moved to what is now KARP/106.9 (Dassel-Hutchinson), which is co-owned with KGLB by Tor Ingstad’s Iowa City Broadcasting along with KDUZ/1260 and K243CQ/96.5 (Hutchinson).
Meanwhile, Lamke Broadcasting’s KOZY/1320 (Grand Rapids) is now being rebroadcast on K226CV/93.1. The translator uses 250 Watts from a tower near Taconite, providing a rimshot signal to Grand Rapids and coverage to several western Iron Range communities.
KOZY carries a full-service Oldies format. Lamke also operates two full-power FM stations in the area.
The new signals in Glencoe and Grand Rapids signals were granted as part of the FCC’s AM revitalization effort.
