“Muskie Country” Returns as Civic Buys Two More in Northern Wis.

Posted on November 22, 2024November 26, 2024 by Jon Ellis

Two years after buying one station in the northern Wisconsin tourist community of Hayward, Civic Media is buying two more.

Zoe Communications is selling WHSM-FM/101.1 (Hayward) and W245CT/96.9 (Hayward) to Civic for $360,000. Zoe previously sold WCBN/910 (Hayward), now WBZH, to Civic in 2022 along with several other stations.

The deal includes the WHSM-FM transmitter site, which WBZH had continued to use following the previous sale.

Civic Media is operating the stations through a time brokerage agreement and WHSM-FM has reverted to its previous “Muskie Country” format. “The Cabin” Classic Hits format that had briefly aired on WHSM-FM continues on Zoe stations in Balsam Lake and Ladysmith.

Meanwhile, W245CT is relaying WBZH, reuniting the pair that had simulcast prior to the 2022 sale. The translator had been fed by WHSM-FM’s HD2 signal following the sale, carrying “The Cabin” until earlier this year.
