Weekly Log: Sinclair Launches Datacasting, Madison Anchor Departs

Posted on April 19, 2024April 19, 2024 by Jon Ellis

Sinclair Broadcast Group announced that it will launch a datacasting platform on all of the ATSC 3.0 (NextGen TV) host stations that it owns, which include WUCW (Minneapolis), KDSM (Des Moines), and WCWF (Suring-Green Bay). It wasn’t immediately announced what exact services will be provided, but the news release states the platform “will allow businesses to distribute files, updates, or video over the air to any device with a 3.0 receiver – cars, tablets, phones, or television sets.”

Anchor Charlotte Deleste has announced plans to depart Morgan Murphy Media CBS affiliate WISC-TV/3 (Madison) after 18 years at the station.

The Iowa Capitol Dispatch profiled Ron Steele, who is marking 50 years with Allen Media NBC affiliate KWWL/7 (Waterloo-Cedar Rapids).

Mike Beiermeister has joined Scripps NBC affiliate WTMJ-TV/4 (Milwaukee) as a multimedia journalist. He previously worked in La Crosse.

WUWM/89.7 (Milwaukee) announced that Bob Reitman has retired after the April 18 broadcast of his weekly show, “It’s All Right, Ma, It’s Only Music.” Reitman started at WUWM in 1966 and had a long career in commercial radio before returning to the public radio station in 2007.

Hubbard Radio’s WJJY/106.7 (Brainerd) was presented with a Crystal Award at the 2024 NAB Show in Las Vegas. The award recognizes year-round community service. Hubbard’s “KS95” (KSTP-FM/94.5 St. Paul) was presented with a Crystal Heritage Award, which recognizes radio stations that have received five prior Crystal Radio Awards.
