Southern Wisconsin’s “Bucky Country” Makes Signal Changes

Posted on April 21, 2024April 21, 2024 by Jon Ellis

Magnum Media’s WBKY/95.9 (Portage) has completed a long-planned move to the south and also added a translator signal in Madison.

WBKY has changed its community of license to Stoughton and now transmits with 2kW/176m (class A) from a tower near Edgerton, providing a strong signal to Janesville. The change represents a move of about 60 miles to the southeast, going from one side of Madison to the other.

WBKY retains its “Bucky Country” format, which is now also rebroadcast on Magnum’s W258CM/99.5 (Madison). W258CM is fed by the HD4 signal of Magnum’s WSJY/107.3 (Fort Atkinson).

The new signals officially launched on April 20 after 21 years of work to move WBKY.

“My two sons, Reid and Ty, were just lads when we started this process,” Dave Magnum said.  “Whenever we reminisce about the umpteen Town and County zoning meetings and hearings, we make sure to have a stout beer in hand.”

Magnum operates 22 Wisconsin radio stations, also serving Janesville with Adult Contemporary-formatted WSJY and “Rock 101.1” (W266DX/101.1 Janesville). W266DX’s programming originating on WFAW/940 (Fort Atkinson).

Magnum still has a Country format serving Portage on WDDC/100.1 (Portage).
